When you register as a candidate stem cell donor via www.31millionchances.org, the Belgian Bone Marrow Register, which is part of the Belgian Red Cross, an institution of public utility, Motstraat 40, 2800 Mechelen, will process your personal data as data processing controller. We process these data to put you in contact with the donor centre of your choice where you can register as a candidate stem cell donor.

This takes place:

  • in order to be able to assist individuals to find the suitable human body material in order to proceed with the transplantation necessary for their survival, to provide health care and/or for reasons of public interest in the field of public health; and
  • in order to be able to provide sufficiently safe stem cells, as well as to provide information and to contact individuals about the donation of stem cells. We do this to provide health care and/or for reasons of public interest in the field of public health.

We provide your data to the donor centre of your choice. They are jointly responsible with the Belgian Bone Marrow Register for processing your data.

As far as the donor centre of your choice concerns a donor centre of Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen,  Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen and NPOs affiliated with Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen process your data also for general communication about and recruitment for their activities on the basis of their legitimate interest. This communication is necessary to guarantee the functioning and continuity of Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen and the affiliated NPOs.

Finally, we provide your data to processors who provide supporting services such as external data platforms and portals, call centres, text message and email services and software suppliers.

We use processors established outside of the European Economic Area. This mainly concerns processors who provide supporting services such as an external data platform and portal and software suppliers.  We provide appropriate safeguards through standard data protection clauses or other appropriate safeguards. These are available should you wish to review these.

Your data will be stored, in accordance with the statutory provisions, namely for a period between 30 and 50 years.

In conformity with the statutory conditions and modalities, you have a right to access, to rectify, to erase and to restrict processing of your personal data. You also have a right to object to the processing.
